Ingredients
1 tsp olive oil
1 tsp fennel seed
1/4 tsp red chili flakes
1/2 cup chopped white or yellow onion
1 tsp dried oregano
1/2 tsp dried parsley
1 lb. lean ground turkey
1/4 cup red wine, something you would drink
1 1/2 cups roasted garlic marinara
1 bay leaf
pinch cinnamon
1/4 cup fresh basil, chiffonade
Method
Heat oil in a Dutch oven. Add fennel and red chili flake and cook for 1 minute to infuse oil.
Add onion, parsley, oregano and cook for 3 minutes.
Add meat and brown.
Add red wine to deglaze and scrape brown bits off the bottom.
Add marinara, bay leaf and cinnamon. Stir to combine and bring to a gentle boil.
Lower heat and cover. Simmer for 1 hour.
Stir in basil after an hour and let simmer uncovered for 15 minutes. Serve over pasta.
